Man, imagine a plane that could literally ram through it's target =)....hey wait, I remember a scene from Strike Witches when Yeager breaches the sound barrier and rams through a Neuroi, you think that was a nod to this aircraft or just a comedic way of obliterating an enemy?

Well I know that there were reports, both with the P51 Mustang and the P38 Lightning, having had "Difficulties maintaining control during prolonged dives". It was later found that the issue was the rudder and elevators not having enough surface area, leaving the pilot in a dangerous situation with no control and hurtling towards the ground. This phenomena occurs when one approaches the sound barrier (I am not an aeronautical expert but I believe it has to do with the eddies of air around this area of the plane causing this issue to arise). It has probably also been said but Chuck Yeager was also the first man to break the sound barrier in the Bell X-1 in 1947, he also piloted a mustang during the war, so it is possible that was a reference to both of those, the latter would be my guess.
