    My guess is that they planned this out when Patchouli started coughing, around comic 57 or 58.

    But more seriously, it could be that Remi didn't bother to clue Patche in on her scheme until their battle was supposed to be taking place.

    That, or the "Patche's just trying to tease her now" idea is true.
