What the heck is that tube thing atop the shotgun? If that's a folding sight laid flat on the very top, it could be a grenade launcher or LAW... If I squint hard, I could pretend it's some kind of fancy helical magazine.

What type of magazine has a rail system attached to it?

According to what I saw in the comments, one explanation is that its some sort of recoil dampening system. Don't ask me how that works but the author didn't leave any comments. Its certainly not optical because of the headset the person has.

Maybe is a system for shooting in space vacuum... or an extra ammunition storage module...

You all try to think through what the mystery tube does, while ignoring the fact that she isn't wearing any pants?

Standard ammunition already contains an oxidizer, thus it has no problem shooting in a vacuum. The most unexpected thing that happens is over heating because there is almost no way for the barrel to keep itself cool.

Why are we speculating when the author already said it's a recoil dampening system?

Could be as simple as a lead weight. Or a lead weight that uses some other source of power to shoot itself forward to counter the recoil.

Pantsless images here are such a common thing, almost nobody pays attention to it.

My point was that the technical aspects of the body armor make even less sense than that of the weapon.

Who knows? It's not often that a magazine of any type is mounted on top of a weapon rather than on the bottom. And while we're at it, if the Wikipedia entry for the Calico M960 is accurate, having a sight on the magazine itself could imply all sorts of other possibilities.

AFAIK, pretty common since Motoko Kusanagi in "Ghost in the Shell"....
