A childhood headcanon where Hugh doesn't have a Pokémon yet. In Hugh's mind, protecting Mei is just natural, and I thought it would be nice if Mei admired that. I also imagined that they would instinctively help each other if anything happened, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. And in the game, Hugh often relies on Mei, which I thought would make her happy!
