We probably would have been okay on a JR line where you can use the ICOCA. I hear it's no good on the Osaka City Subway. Back in the day, they had a mascot character named "Surutto-chan" (Roughly, "Glida") for the Surutto Kansai (Glide through Kansai) system. I wonder if she's still around? :-)

Yugami Ririko was a mascot for Hitachi Appliance, Inc., debuted on their now-defunct 30Girl web site. Com-chan is a condom-based mascot for the Yokohama AIDS Action and Information Center. Di Gi Charat, of course, is the mascot for Broccoli Co., Ltd.'s retail store, Gamers.

The eye makes me think of Cubism and Picasso, with the multiple perspective thing (eye from the front with a face in profile).
