I hear the ontōsai is a Shinto ritual held every April 15, and deer, rabbits, children and such were offered up as sacrifices. Naturally, it seems they don't make sacrifices now, but offer up subsitutes instead.

There are apparently lost secret arts too, and those are thought to be the basis for Sanae-san's spell card "Forgotten Ritual". I hear the museum is closed on the day after holidays, so any of you who go, be aware of this.

At this point, it may have been just as well that my Sanae-san wasn't around for this trip. If she'd gone, things would've become too chaotic, and I don't know how I would've drawn it. :-)

Reader-added tags include "Rabbit: 'Make a contract with me and become a sacrifice'", "Like butcher-bird prey" and "Wouldn't nōae tend to stink of blood, Yuyuko-sama?"

The survey's craving coneys, and we don't mean hot dogs:

    Shall we dine on rabbit?
    • On Tewi
    • On Udonge
    • On a lunar rabbit
    • On bunny-girl Kaguya
    • On bunny-girl Eirin

Really long because they keep growing back.

I don't think immortality will interfere with what he has in mind.

That is the cutest gruesome ritual I've ever seen drawn. Poor little bunny! It's so cute looking, why would anyone stick a pike through it? I wouldn't do it to a real one, either, and only Yuyuko-sama would think about what noae tastes like.

For the poll, bunny-girl Kaguya. She keeps coming back, so it's like an endless buffet, as long as the part that the rest grows back from isn't the part you're eating, you're good to go.

If there is one to eat, it's gotta be Udonge.

"children and such were offered up as sacrifices."

Wow, no one thought that was surprising to hear? I guess it was not that uncommon in those days the world over I assume but still that's the first I have heard.

With his intended context (IYKWIM), Bunny Girl Eirin.

When you consider the festival was based on the story of Abraham and Isaac, the children were likely offered pro forma, but not actually sacrificed.

Was the festival really based on the Old Testament story?

Or is it an analogous story, the way a lot of old "myths" made it into modern religions (ie. the Great Flood)?

The wording in the note makes it seem as if a Shinto shrine re-enacts an...Abrahamic tradition.

This confuses the daylights out of me.

    I found this.
The first part of this page is incredibly informative regarding "Ontohsai," even if anthropological theory.

This is an old story, Lost Tribes, yadda yadda, look at all these coincidences. Kazami Yuuka gets a dredel, Suwako represents early Jomon while Kanako represents YHWH. It's an odd one that gains popularity now and then, depending on the political climate, but it's like Ancient Aliens.

It was a little gruesome, so this is an artist's rendition.
Wow, so this is where the person who became the basis for the original games' Sanae-san is.
    That's an incredibly meta statement...
    Yaay
    We don't know!!
    Okaaay!♡
Well, shall we take a peek into the museum right now?
    The Jinchokan Moriya Historical Museum.
    It's a Model, of Course
    I wonder, is nōae※ tasty?
※Consumable deer meat with deer brain dressing.
    Amazing, isn't it.
It seems to be an exhibit reproducing the sacrifices for the ontōsai. Literally, "chief festival." Apparently, a festival recounting an analogous story of Abraham's near-sacrifice of Isaac.
