Some friends and I thought the one in the red pilot suit was a girl (admittedly we first saw the pic on a small celhpone screen) and it spawned a huge discussion on the few mecha series where the lead mecha has a female pilot.
I just watched the show. When seen at a normal size it's clear as day that's a dude. We all feel very stupid, but likely moreso me because I argued the hardest about it.

The discussion was probably still pretty good, though. I wasn't even aware that there were any mecha series that had female leads.
