If those knives belong to who I think they belong to, and if this is about Hopeless Masquerade, then this makes me a happy young man.
EDIT: I stand corrected: upon doing a bit more research, this is about the 14th Touhou game. No offence to Youmu and Sanae (and those who are fans of the two)! I'm just glad that Sakuya is back as a playable character.

Considering only three characters are confirmed, who's to say the other two are confirmed as not being in the game? The demo might come out and WOAH YOUMU or DANG SANAE. But for now, it's up in the air.
And as amusing as it is to see fan-art of the characters "getting back at each other" or something, I don't feel it should extend to the fans as well. Christ, they're fictional characters, why are there people getting textually violent because you can play as one and not the other? Besides, the people who REALLY like Sanae will probably get to play as her in Hopeless Masquerade. I know there aren't many people here getting weird, but is it not too much to ask people to calm down?

Well, I don't care about those two (well ok, I was happy about Youmu in TD), I play as Marisa, my 2nd fav. I just remembered what Sakuya fans were like when UFO came out, so I thought bout that. They're way too butthurt about that playable/unplayable Sakuya stuff and this picture pretty much shows that.

Almost anyone, don't feel like a new character should be playable that soon with such huge roster to draw from. But I'll name just a few: Kotohime, Remilia, Meiling, Koakuma, Cirno, Daiyousei, Alice, Yuuka, Ran, Suika, Yuugi, Koishi, Orin, Tenshi, Nitori, Shou, Kogasa... that's not a few, that's already many.
That's the only one I agree with, but seeing how ZUN does not use non-human characters for playable roles, won't happen...
You forgot about both Mima and Yuuka, who were playable in Mystic Square, and any non-humans in the phantasmagoria and fighting games(although I don't know why phantasmagoria and the fighting games doesn't count!)
Personally I'd like Kiene, Meiling, Shou, Reisen or Rin to be Playable characters. ...You know what? make Yumeko a playable character, I'd really love to see that!

None of them are human, and are thus bad/unlikely playability choices by default. Even besides that, for most of them I'm not seeing any reason for them to be playable. Like, at all. Koakuma? Seriously?

I assume we're also ignoring PoFV, which lets you play as one of twelve youkai along with the three humans and the half-ghost. I mean, people usually do anyway, which is somewhat rude.

Youkai being playable in IN was a big deal and was one of the biggest points of the game. It's not something that normally happens. PoFV was not a regular game either. The PC-98 games are...different. What they did are not indicative of what a Windows game will do.

Who said I didn't? The point is that non-human playables are not regular occurrences, and they thus are not good candidates/guesses for playability. Unless it's a special game, it's not happening.
