    There are more than two hundred of these funaya, and more are under construction. I wonder if the lodging areas for shipgirls on duty also look something like this.
    This is a place I discovered this summer, on the way to touring Hokkaido with my father. We first rode from Hiroshima to where Kyoto borders the Sea of Japan, then boarded a ferry there.

    The waterfront of Ine town, lined with funaya, is a wonderful sight. The houses are directly connected to the sea, with the first floor being a boat garage.
