God, I miss the days when that was still a rumor, before the devs decided to shoehorn The Power of Friendship™ into the game, to go along with the animé.

I honestly blame the anime for making fantheories canon. I liked Ooi being a protective sister a not an obsessive yandere to Kitakami. or that Nagamon is real... or that THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP CAN HEAL ABYSSALS.

Isn't "The Power of Friendship" in this case blowing them the fuck up? At least, that's what I remember from back when I played.

Yes, and killing a villain and them magically coming back to life as a hero, with no memories of their life as a villain, just feels like something out of a soap opera or a bad fanfiction. No angst over what they did as an Abyssal, no concerns from the other KanMusu over whether they're still a villain or not, not even a throwaway line ("I'm sorry you had to see me like that, Admiral"). Not to mention I'm sure every fan of Northern Ocean Himé or Seaport Himé wishes they could do the same thing with them.

It's not a concept you'd find in Western theories, since we subscribe to an Absolute vs an Absolute. boushi-ya described the concept of this eternal back-and-forth battle quite succintly in this story of his.

That might be a valid argument if there was any indication that a KanMusu and her Abyssal counterpart are the same character, or if they indicated some kind of moral ambiguity for the Abyssals, but given how different their personalities are, and the fact that a character has to die for it to happen (meaning, they don't go of their own free will), I think it's just more to indicate how heroic the heroes are, and how villainous the villains are, thus reinforcing the concept of absolute vs. absolute. It's not like a soldier defecting to the other side, it's more like, well... a warship being captured.

    Hurts me...
...or how long it would take.
    No matter what...
    But I'm happy...
    But...
    Sorry...
    If I become like that...
    ...what would you do?
There's a theory that the Shinkaiseikan are what became of Fleet Girls who were sunk, right?
Even as a joke, thinking of such a thing...
Of course, I'd take you back.
