Wow, I think this is the first picture of Waskashigihime, that actually depicts her as a princess. I wonder if she really is a princess? Welp, we'll find out in the next print book!

Wakasagihime is kinda popular for a recent stage 1 boss, isn't her?

    or maybe it's my impression.

She's Touhou's first example of an extremely popular mythical creature. She's also pretty much joined at the hip with two other characters who are popular in their own right: Sekibanki and Kagerou (the latter of whom she is frequently paired with), and let's not get into the sweet, gentle, feminine personality the fans give her.

Interesting how, in the game Seija debuts, the early stage characters are probably going to be much more popular than the latter stage ones overall.

This is because the Tsukumo's and Raiko are suffering from being not really notable.
Especially true for Raiko: despite being an ex-boss, she doesn't give the impression of being one compared to any other EX-boss. Regardless on how hard she is gameplay-wise, all the others had important relationships, interesting features/abilities and a bit of backstory that allowed fans to create theories on how they lived before, and thus create doujin on this. This is not possible for Raiko and the tsukumos because their stories start almost exactly when we met them. Also, both her and the tsukumo's are just "another example of musical-related youkai" (that for some reason are already not-so popular on their own), whose abilities are almost the same as the Prismrivers'. I think they would have been far more popular if they were another kind of tsukumogami with unique characteristics that would make them less "mergeable" with other chracters (Kogasa being an example of this).

Plus, I really can't see Seija catching on since we already have a few trollish Touhous (Yukari, Tewi, and Nue come to mind), and Seija comes off as more assholish than the aforementioned.

Shinmyoumaru I really like, and it goes without saying that she'll be popular, since she can easily be portrayed as badass, elegant, or moé. However, she suffers from being unconnected to anyone besides Seija (and after the events of DDC, we can probably say she'll never want anything to do with Seija again). It would've been good if ZUN went back to the tradition of the Ex-boss being irrelevant to the plot, but an important figure in Shinmyoumaru's life.
