I kind of liked those bulky things. There were all kinds of mods for those, tape recorders, and radios that you could repurpose for super squirrel secret devices that seemed like magic before the digital age. With a screw driver and a soldering iron, you could be your own demi-god of the brave new world.
On the other hand, it is nice with digital that you can take pretty much as many photos as you like and delete freely.
