This reminds me of an experiment I used to do with corn starch and iodine. I don't understand the chemistry behind it, but iodine turns cornstarch a dark blue. For some reason, if you dissolve them both in water and then mix the solutions, it stays clear for three or four seconds and then turns blue all at once. I used it a couple of times in Sunday School for the "water into wine" story.

If I still remember my middle school chemistry, the juice from the cabbage can be used as pH indicator and they react with the acid in vinegar, though rather than clear it's more pinkish colour, wasn't it?

EDIT: My bad, I didn't look at the image clearly, it is more pinkish than clear ^_^;
