Well, it was a Kancolle anime, no more no less. From a purely Kancolle perspective Kadokawa could have done no better but as of now it falls far short of meeting the expectations that a lot of the 'deeper' fans had. It's probably going to sink a lot of fanon too.
Can't think of any reason the Admiral had to run what I'm assuming was a level 1 Fubuki in the boss map though. That part made no sense at all.
I just watched it and it was an instant favorite, I hope we get to see more of the abyssal ships and just a lot of characters!
I hope that, rather than having a LOT of characters, they actually take the time to characterize the characters.
Shows like these have the terrible tendency to have a billion walk-on parts and nobody who has any memorable characterization.
And yeah, it'd be really great if there were going to be historical references, as well, but I SERIOUSLY doubt they're going to be willing to risk that when just making cute girls acting cute is a far safer and likely more profitable route.

Oh indeed indeed, I agree with almost everything you say, I didn't mean it like that. I just hope to see the characters I like the most a lot! I too prefer when you get to know the characters more and they have things you remember them by.

The game doesn't actually provide us with a lot of canon (we get lots of cannons though), so there's a pretty big chance that we are left with a bunch of fairly undeveloped characters. I'm not sure this is a good use of the medium but hey, I'll still enjoy it :|
