Not at all. I like how cheerful she is, compare to her as U-511 where she looks like a mindless german drone. I had a feeling when I saw her Kai 2 people would be screaming their heads off.
I'm just happy for more Subs, especially when Shioi is about as hard to craft as Taihou.
If you live in a high latitude and move to the tropics for a vacation- there is a very good chance that you will think twice before returning home- or at least be sad that you'll be going home away from all the warmth.

Very rarely I had the chance, but never regret the decision. I need an escape from the tropical hot and humid weather.
U-511 is the fully clothes armor sub. Ro-500 is the tanned school swimsuit version, U-511's Kai 2.
Ah, now I know why I can't tell the differences - because everyone else is too busy drawing the tanned swimsuit ones instead.

Haha, no. See I've got a saying "I can always put on another coat. I can't take off my skin". Anyone that wants inescapable heat and humidity most of the year is quite mad in my view. It get's plenty hot and humid in the summer up here, it is not pleasant to be outside in.
I think RO-500 is cute too, but I like her U-551 design a lot better.
Agreed U-511 was cool and unquie this is frankly just a boring re-do of the rest of the subs who to be brutally honest I have never liked at all. U-511 was the first submarine I thought looked neat, so of course they went and ruined it with her upgrade art with more of the same... sigh.

In short, they ruined a good thing. If she was made that way in the first place there wouldn't be as much outrage. It doesn't help there's not much varation among the subs as there is among the other types.

Gee a character designed by a certain artist looks like a character designed by a certain by an artist... shocking. This can only be a downside if you consider his usual designs bad or unfitting for a certain setting. Well I don't think you'll find many that will argue the former and the later is a non-factor given the complete lack of a cohesive style to begin with since they've used dozens of different artists and made zero attempt to enforce any sort of uniformity of style.
Even worse it seems the craptastic Ro-500 design is drawing most of the art, probably because it's easier to draw IMO and that's just terrible given how worse a design it is IMO. Honestly the more I look at it the more I grow to hate it. It started as mild dislike, but it's since grown to active distaste at ruining such a neat looking character.
For my defense, I don't bother to compare her to other submarine girls. I'm comparing her to Bismarck, Prinz and Taihou which Fumikane also designed. Then to his familiar older mecha musume works, Strike Witches and before. Taihou's costume might look like the older Fusou Strike Witches uniform before the army changed to miko dress, but U-511's uniform is too plain and lacked unique features compared to his old German/Russian airplane girls design. Yes, I would expect "military don't need flashy design" response, but having unique feature doesn't have to mean flashy. U-511 design felt hurried in comparison.
It's kind of the reverse of why U-511 and Ro-500 got the response they have. They are compared to the other submarine girls (and the sick of school swimsuit sentiment). I'm comparing only to Fumikane's other work, and for U-511, it's "nice but not exceptional" :)
And I don't have much to say about Ro other than she looks like Ilya, which again, is not trying to compare her to the U-511 or the other submarine girls design.
Yep, still unhappy about this insane personality change in her after all these years. It is almost like the insane 180° personality change Luke had in TLJ, but this is even more extreme.
I have nothing against her appearance change, for me that is just a minor gripe, but the change in personality is on the verge of illogicality.
Sure, she might become more open, but there is a difference between smiling, laughing more and being more cheerful to... this.
Honestly, seeing this change makes me think "Who is abusing you, who is causing you such pain that you try to hide it behind over-exaggerated smile and cheerfulness?"
And even if it is not that extreme, it still feels forced, not genuine.
