It's likely simply just that caramelldansen is the much more widely recognized meme/parody related to Popotan, so those unfamiliar with icchae popotan would likely associate it with caramelldansen.

Also doesn't help they're both derived from the same intro.

Was there ever an english patch for the game? I think I still have a copy from deadfrog or the glory days of mininova
