Going to have to agree. While I love the design styles of the American ship-girls, I would have rather preferred if they used M1 Garands or muskets like our Langley here.

Or even automatic crossbows. Just to give a sort of contrast between the Japanese and American kamusus.

I want Enterprise to be wielding a souped-up M1 Garand, or an M1 Carbine. Because rifles.

Rifle or six-shooter. For the Yorktowns it might be both, or a old single shot pistol in addition to their musket or rifle...to represent the hanger deck side catapult (they didn't use it much). It was suppose to be for launching scout planes so they'd have the deck ready for fighters or the bombers. But because the Scout Squadrons also used dive bombers, they could be used with the strike package and thus didn't hinder flight ops to the point were they'd need the hanger deck catapult.

Essex get something better to represent their "Sunday Punch" of 36 fighters, 36 dive bombers, and 18 torpedo bombers. Either a World War II vintage rifle, or a 1800s repeating rifle or carbine.

A garand with the emblems of the squadrons she carried engraved on the clips.

Guns would be integral to Enterprise, considering she was the first to use full CATOBAR in order to keep up with the Essex class squadron sizes, and there is absolutely no way a muzzle-loader would be able to represent the fastest flight deck in the USN.
