But there are many things that can be deduced about a person if you know what they watch. For example, 37% of violent but non-deadly crimes in Japan have been committed by people who have at some point in their life watched Bleach.
Bullshit. The only thing liking an anime says about you is what kind of entertainment you like, and sometimes not even that. I, for instance, love Higurashi no Naku Koro ni but I hate psychological thrillers in general.
And besides, your example cannot be applied to LaC's statement because his opinion is based on what he believes is a crappy anime, a subjective variable if there ever was one. The defense stands: "Only losers watch MGLN" is a pathetic attempt at an insult and LaC should be ashamed of himself.
If a person's preferred form of entertainment reflected on their character like you're trying to say it does, then I should be a violent psychopath because I like a show where kids go insane and kill each other. I should also be a deranged pervert becuase of all the h-doujins I read. I am neither of these things. Ergo what entertains me does not reflect on my character.
Watching that show does not make you a violent psychopath, but it does mean you like watching kids go insane and kill each other. And if you like watching an anime about it, does that mean you would like to watch a movie featuring similar circumstances, for example Battle Royal. And if you like watching a movie about it, would you ever like to see it in person?
And if you like H-doujins and you happened to find a good-quality H-Doujin lying around, not dirty or in someone's house, but just.. around, would you pick it up? Would you buy or download them? That's already tell me about your buying and downloading habits and in turn how you spend your time. So, I already know something about you. And how you spend your time reflects on your character.

Also, 87% of statistics are made up on the spot. Including this one.
...I think people may be overthinking Dr Fine Rolo's comment.
All he said was that the Nanoha fandom(which he was a part of) could use more derision, not making a massive sweeping statement to inspire dozens of post about fan psychology.
Kind of like how fans of DBZ or FF7 know that a lot of their fellow fans could use a good punch in the face for being idiots.
(That said, I agree with him.. I see a lot of Nanoha fans that I just want to throw out a window, even though I'm one of them.)
