I thought of The Fifth Element. I guess they took some inspiration from NGE regarding having the retrieved alien turn out to be basically human once she was reconstructed. Holy fucking shit that's a mental leap there.

The correct answer, IIRC from one of the comments, Angels are children of Adam.
We (human) are children of Lilith.

Both Adam and Lilith are probably the same kind of creature... well, at least as same as Lovecraft's gods are to each others.

They were both basically planetary seeding machine type creatures created by the first civilisation and sent out with a few million others to seed life across the galaxy. Problem is there was only supposed to be one per world and an accident caused Lilith to arrive after Adam had already started creating life, which clashed with her life forms. Luckily the first ones saw this coming and sent them all with instruction manuals and a control device which Liliths creations figured out and used on Adam to switch him off (read:impaled him on). And so we lived happily ever after until some eejits turned Adam back on and turned half the world into LCL because Adams life had priority.
