Haruna is wearing a shoulderless blouse outside when the previous strip attempted to establish that it's cold using Hiei's hands. They were cold enough for Admibro to pull out a kotatsu. Something about this feels off.

It's a middling 15C in Tokyo today, but getting up to low 20s down here in Kyushu. I guess it's cold enough to have the kotatsu, but not turn it on?

It doesn’t have to be winter in Japan for it to be really cold inside your home. Most houses and apartments have really bad insulation (see Wikipedia) and a lot of the heat you produce, often with rather expensive and inefficient electric heating, goes straight outside. Old houses also tend to be pretty drafty. So unless you can afford heating like a madman, you’re either poor or cold. If you’re unlucky, you’re poor and cold.

Kotatsu are pretty popular as you can have it pretty warm and cozy under there while not wasting too much electricity. That’s because you’re heating only the small space below the table, not the whole room (and your backyard).

They have desk-kotatsu now. Not quite full-height, but not sit-on-the-floor style either.
