Minilla has always been an adopted son according to the movies. I believe this holds over even in the original japanese versions.

I just want to point out how silly "godzilla hugging minilla = godzilla must be a girl!" is, as far as logic goes.

To be perfectly honest the fact that the 'King of the Monsters' Title is also something they refer to him as over in japan at least implies that he's male, but we never see him getting it on(and every child of his is adopted instead of biological for some reason) so I guess in practice he might as well be asexual.
