Wait. Is this a derivative of the infamous Furukawa Rainbow bread? Where tasting the rainbow means (nearly) certain death?

I think this is a critique of American desserts to often be, well... over-sugared.

I don't blame them, especially the frosting.

Born, raised, and always lived in the U.S. and I can rarely finish a sugary treat like a cupcake without having a bad "oh god this is too much please stop" taste in my mouth. In fact, with cupcakes, everybody else is usually eating their third before I'm done licking the frosting off my first so I can enjoy the cake.

I had my first American cupcake in a freshman orientation event. One for international students.

I had to scrape off nearly all of the frosting before it became edible.

Also, I could've sworn your sodas are sweeter. Or maybe that's just the HFCS speaking.

And, well, Southern Sweet Iced Tea. Why, Japanese American people, why!?

For what it's worth I've never seen a regular person put as much icing on a cupcake as a bakery. It's a mystery. They do the same damn thing to cakes.

I have a major sweet tooth, but Southern Sweet Iced Tea is a whole separate level of sweet. They must have confused making iced tea with making jams and used enough sugar to try and preserve the drink for eternity.

Or as we call it, "Tea." Everything else is "Unsweet Tea."

And then you get Americans complaining that Thai desserts and candies are overly sweet...

..Well, there was that one dessert that was basically egg yolk cooked in boiling syrup...

Well when I saw it, it had it's own separate labeling calling it Southern Style, which was apart from their offerings of Iced Tea and Unsweetened (although this was at a University dining hall located in the South, but not the Deep South). I remember the first sip was fine, but after like three sips I was too sickened by it to continue it.

My brother and his family currently over there in Thailand have been complaining about how it seems they sweeten everything, not just their desserts and candies.

Most of that junk food garbage is too sweet for Americas as well. Who the hell they make them for is anyone's guess, I'm guessing it's children. Also Please don't say those are "American sweets", go visit a good candy or bread shop then come talk.

Born in the US, here. Cupcakes are no problem, though I usually limit myself to 2 or 3 at most.

My mom's family is from Mississippi, so I've had plenty of southern sweet tea, and I've taken to calling it "hummingbird food."

Oh yay, I'm glad I'm not the only one to find American cupcakes to be unbearably sweet. Usually, anyways - I've found a few nice ones at specialty shops, but those are the exceptions (and are really sweet too, but just have more flavor than just super sugary). Really, most of the time it's just the store bought cupcakes and regular cakes that have just frosting and nothing else are the ones I can't stand.

"Schweet"... A flavor of something that has gone beyond sweet. It's what Ryuujou is saying, but I don't feel like going thru all the trouble of another rainbow word
