Have a look at howto:comment. You know, that thing that should be at the top of the comments for you all the time and that you agreed to when you signed up.
Your comment is definitely covered by this rule:
Don't post silly one-liners. We are a fairly focused community and inane banter is kept to a minimum. Don't just say "wow that's hot" or "lol", that adds nothing to the discussion and just takes up space.
Flandrean’s comment either falls under the same rule or this one, even though it’s not exactly dialogue:
Do not post "funny" dialogues. Do not post comments with lines the characters in the picture are supposedly saying. There's nothing wrong with funny or witty comments, but those are neither.
Some users, me included, really dislike such annoying comments that contribute nothing and some give out downvotes for that. I gave up downvoting all the annoying ones long ago because I don’t have enough daily votes for that and rather keep them for the really bad comments. :)
Btw, you should only upvote comments that you think deserve it. Upvoting Flandrean without knowing why he was downvoted sounds like white-knighting.
Btw number 2, consider asking questions like this on the forum because it’s not related to the post.
