Well, at least the glasses have a 2ndary side effect of being able to tell lies. This isn't the first time we've seen this but it's cool to see it brought up again and have the Admiral actually come out on top of some of his more devious girls.

Not so much that the glasses can tell if someone is lying but that the Admiral is able to deduce a shipgirl's true intentions by taking note of the number. Basically Hatsuyuki pretended to show deep interest but her actual interest was very low. From there the admiral realize she was only trying to trick him and he managed to circumvent her ruse.
You could say that the glasses are actually helping him evolve and better deal with his shipgirls (which ironically is probably why Akashi's number kept going up until she manually stuck it at zero, she's gaining respect and admiration for him).
