Artist's commentary
Defiant Light Goddess
Palutena is my FAVORITE character in Super Smash Bros. When I set out to do this, I was feeling a lot of pressure to get her just right. I was looking for a more serious take on Palutena, something less sexy and more aggressive to show off a more warrior-goddess’ air. I’ve never seen her like the other D̶i̶s̶n̶e̶y̶ Nintendo Princesses. I’ve always thought of her as incredibly knowledgeable and incredibly capable. All considered, I think I did a good job of bringing out that side of her. despite being battered and bruised, she’s committed to protecting the light!!
From a technical standpoint this drawing was my first time experimenting with battle damages. Messing around with cuts, lacerations, burns, bruises and whatnot was a challenge but I think it all went well. This illustration was a long time coming, and I’m glad it could be my first release of the year.
