Dude, people have been surviving that sort of trauma since before we had modern medicine... including amputating limbs. Before anesthesia was even an option or the only "anesthesia" was a bottle of whisky. Before we had knowledge of how infectious disease was transmitted even. And some- granted, not all- survived the trauma of the initial injury, a potential ensuing infection, and even the amputation. I'm pretty sure the neurons are firing just as much if not more. And people have survived multiple lightning strikes, and even a metal rod punching a hole in their brain. So yeah, still calling bullshit.

And following up on the rest... You ask about stimulation of the nerves and the brain "going poof" from the pleasure. Well, there's an animal whose venom has an interesting effect. It lives in Australia, because of course it does. The platypus. Hyperalgesia is one of the wonderful side effects of it's already extremely painful venom, which means it makes the nerves in the affected area even more sensitive to pain and heightens the perception of it. If you wanted a real life analogue to Mahiro's situation vis a vis pleasure, it's as close to you can get. As someone who survived sutained electrocution due to equipment malfunction near a power supply, I can calmly say, I'm not bloody dead.
