The real reason Okina wants to get rid of them is simply because they keep reminding her of how lonely she is.

I feel like ZUN made them unrelated so that in the inevitable event that the fandom shipped them, it wouldn't be incest.

Same here, both of them are adorable. I doubt they're gonna fall into obscurity like most other "pair" touhous, they've both gotten a ton of fan art so far, play a major part in the story and have more exciting designs than previous pairs (aside from maybe Remilia/Flandre and Satori/Koishi). Maybe I'm just being optimistic here but I definitely wanna see more of them together.
