Context: TATSUKI, the director behind Kemono Friends, suddenly announced on Monday 25/09 that Kadokawa have taken him off the Kemono Friends production team, basically firing the guy who poured his heart and soul into making Kemono Friends happen.

    Sad news...
I heard this rumour that Kadokawa wants to try a new style in the next season (maybe 2d) and Tatsuki refused

These companies really just cannot help themselves can they? If the property is successful and profitable why meddle so aggressively?

Because they obviously have not heard the old adage "If it ain't broke don't fix it."

^ Yeah, somehow I have the impression that they didn't think this through. Someone probably said, word for word, "What's the worst that could happen?"

That is just shocking. I read somewhere him and a very small team poured an entire year to make 12 episodes with an incredibly small budget.

I really hope they reverse this decision because there is no one else that understands Kemono Friends than Tatsuki.

The worst thing that can happen now would be like that Kokoro connect debacle. Once the fans starts boycotting it's all over.

Tatsuki storyboarded, wrote and directed the show and even created some of the 3D models. The whole team was 10-12 people.

The show came from the worst possible circumstances and turned into the most unlikely hit. Now less than a year later it's almost certainly dead. I didn't know failure of this magnitude was even possible. We still don't know why Tatsuki was let go, but it's very unlikely it was his fault.

Edit: there's a new story up on ANN about the head of the entire Kadokawa group saying he's concerned about the situation and doesn't know all the details yet, so maybe there is a chance that this will be reversed.

Most likely since even the head of bushiroad condemned them. Also to make funnier kadokawa executives are playing stupid like they were blindsided too or something

Hmmm, well, at least someone is talking about this from the executives' end of this. Hopefully we will get a clear answer very soon, thanks for the update, demosquid.

I imagine it's rather easy to play surprised when your company's stocks flat-out plummet. I'm honestly counting on that situation to make them reverse this baffling call. I mean, to make a mega-hit out of something that, by the circumstances placed around it, had no chance in hell of even being semi-decent... and, basically, be fired for said success is just insanity.

On twitter Konami was trending just from Kadowaka being compared to them, that's how big the backlash was

For those who can understand Japanese: https://togetter.com/li/1155043

For those who can't, a quick run-down from an "insider" (not in the article) :

    - the cross-media Kemono Friends game died, so KDKW Marketing team outsourced the anime out to an outside studio to finish.

    - YAOYOROZU picked up the slated-for-death anime project.

    - Tatsuki scrapped the original storyboard and rewrote the whole thing, becoming the Kemono Friends anime we all love and cherished.

    - With Kemono Friends anime single-handedly reviving the whole project, KDKW Marketing team felt they lost face for abandoning the project and wanted it back.

It's the equivalent two kids on a playground one gives the other a burst ball cause it's no good to him and the other patches it up inflates and has a blast with the other kids then the first boy comes back when he sees this and takes the ball saying it's his ball so play with me instead

That "insider" story doesn't add up. Production on the anime started in 2015 (since it's said to have been in production for 500 days), and the game started in March 2015 and was canned just a month before the anime premiered. It's possible that someone at Kusokawa simply got buttblasted though, since Yaoyorozu revived their failed franchise and effectively made it their own.

I've decided that from now on I will not knowingly give shekels to Kuzukawa, and that's unfortunate because I buy quite a lot of stuff and they are behind many franchises such as Love Live and Strike Witches. Kurokawa has to die and they will only die if people stop feeding them.

Don't forget that Kemono Friends also has two manga adaptation/spin-offs that begun serializing in 2017 as well. That's a lot of money being pushed around.

Then again, anything that I might add from this point on is simply hearsay and speculation since I don't have access to any reliable intel.
