Aya really looks best with wings, especially when they are at shoulder level and not at hip level.

Goddamn does it pisses me off when artists draw wings for her, Hatate and other characters like that like Siegfried (even though offical art place them there because of, I guess, the leaf mark on his mark, it's still kinda stupid).

"Trendy Wings" are pretty annoying yeah. Wings have an actual function and are not some fashionable decorative item. What do they think they are? Victini?

Because Biology speaking, it makes more since for wings on a humanoid to be at Hip level and not Shoulder Level for balance and better muscle control. If a Humnaoid creature with wings were to ever naturally evolve.

Biologically, bird wings and arms are homologous structures, and so the closest thing to a biologically sensible winged-humanoid type is harpies where the wings are the arms. I suppose that's a less popular solution because of the challenges of still being able to use tools and equipment while flying.

As long as you're sticking a third pair of limbs on a humanoid structure, though, there are arguments in either direction:

    • The pelvis is already adapted to bear the weight of a human body, to be sure, but you have to think about where you put the flight muscles, and you have to redesign the pelvis to support the human body's weight from above as well as below. If you're really clever, maybe you can reuse the upper leg muscles as flight muscles so that flapping the wings involves bicycling the legs (with additional muscles and tendons to allow some independent movement of wings and legs).
    • The shoulder blades, on the other hand, are already adapted to bear a human body weight from above. You'd need to beef things up a bit, but it's not too much of an adjustment - you'd just be pushing them back in the direction of our brachiating ancestors. The hard part is the square-cube issues of the flight muscles - there isn't much room to put that much muscle on a humanoid upper body without getting ridiculously barrel-chested.
