It's easy to forget because it's been so long, but it's been revealed that it's a ring, and that he doesn't want to give it to her because it's 'only a provisional marriage'.

That box is not the same as the box shown a few strips back as the shape is different. We don't know if it's a ring box - Fubuki never saw the original and is assuming it is.

For all we know, they're suicide pills to be used to make sure the Abyssals can't convert Fubuki if they overrun the base.

It's also possible that's just a problem of the artist forgetting the exact shape of the box in the year-long hiatus, the way that a lot of people forgot there even was a ring before they went back and re-read the story. I mean, even in that one strip, the box looks more rounded in the top panel than the bottom one.

It's a Schrodenger's gun issue at this point: We all know that the plot basically revolves around "Will-they-or-will-they-NOW?!" since the entire purpose of this base seems to be countering the notion of the more harem-like Admibro base with a base that is solely and exclusively revolving around monogamy, only to have the all the same Unresolved Sexual Tension and pantyshot nonsense of a generic harem anime, anyway.

The important plot points are,
1. He has a ring, but doesn't want to give it to her.
2. She believes he has a ring, and wants to give it to her.

If she thought that after looking at the wrong box, that just happened to be some pills in a jewelry box, it wouldn't really matter, because it wouldn't change the basic narrative conflict those two points set up; it just sets up a red herring gag that he absolutely could have set up deliberately (by stuffing the ring in his pocket the whole time) if he so chose, but which would only matter if Fubuki was going to go back and open that box instead of "waiting" the way she says in the next strip.
