In the KnNIverse, Makoto Shinkai never successfully transformed Yume to Shiriseba/If I'd Known It Was a Dream into Kimi no Na Wa./your name. and his sixth major release in 2016 was more of the same critically acclaimed but commercially unimpressive fare. It would not be until Keit-Ai/Cel-Love (which 4chan never came up with in this reality) in 2019 that he finally got his breakthrough into the international mainstream."
