No, he's done this before. When he has a new book, he throws out pages from it as both a promo for his book, and also as a way to not have to draw more pages of free stuff for Pixiv when he's in crunch time trying to finish up his book for Comiket.
The thing is, he just doesn't try to find a way to fit it in between the storylines so that it's not just jamming a completely different story in the middle of another one already in progress, so it winds up with these jarring interruptions.
