    Hang in There, Kogasa-san 23654

Here's a story of a game session I played in a program at Gpara.com. (It often comes up 404, but you can read it if you reload. (^^;))

The content itself is on the site linked above, so I'm just going to show a little of the circumstances during game play. This probably won't continue for long.

Kogasa playing an RPG? This is gonna be fun. Wonder what system they used.

Been playing in a BESM Magical Girl RPG for the last few months and having a blast, despite the flawed system.

The replay itself didn't outright state anything - the GM had a GM screen from Rune Quest, but I am not familiar with the system myself. It's mentioned that the system itself isn't disclosed, and the rules has been arranged so that it's friendly to newbies - something like the Basic ruleset for 5th edition D&D, I suppose?

They used a system where checks are done by percentiles, with a style of fantasy that had dwarves and elves, and classes such as thief and priest. Dices go from d4's to seemingly just d10's - a special magic wooden sword called Goblin Slayer is a 1d4 weapon that deals 1d10+5 damage against goblinoids, that sort of thing. With this much, I can only say that it's not D&D or Sword World. If there's anyone with more expertise in TRPGs, feel free to chime in on info.

Hmn, I really miss those days.. although, the one I played was online, text-only, and had no (virtual) dice or stat-based character sheets. It was just a theme, featured characters, original characters, and what was basically cooperative writing. It got abused eventually of course, but once they went to RNG virtual dice and forced character sheets with computated stats, it got abused even worse and even non-power-gamers began to game-the-system.

The thing is that it was meant to be about cooperative storytelling and sort of 'living' in that theme's environment. But by that point, actual storytelling and interesting characters took a backseat, and it all just became a meta-game of trying to 'legally' power-game by balancing negative traits with overpowered abilities than care how the story turned out.

Sure, it's funny when you look at the chaos as a passing bystander. But when you were working on writing and character development and planning interactive plots between multiple characters and suddenly it immediately gets solved by boring/samey overpowered children with SEVERE troubled pasts, it gets real old real fast.

I still miss it, but good grief I could never take it seriously enough to put that kind of effort even into a jokingly bad version just for fun after all that. XD

I had a TRPG session recently. It was pretty fun so I'll talk a bit about it, though nobody needs to read it. Some of my friends wanted to play a TRPG. We went with a very loosely based in Star Wars system [apparently based in DnD from what I saw]. Minus the war in the stars - it's ongoing in modern times, so no races either.

I'm playing a childish [to not say retarded], energetic girl who grew in a asylum, due to being delirious. [I have plans to make her mature quickly if players show signs of being annoyed at her, but so far they seemed to have fun.]

Since it's the first time I'm playing a more active character, and a little insane, it's a bit of a new experience. I usually do shyer characters with one trauma or another so that they can have some clear character development, but since it's being done live and/or by voice, it's better to have someone whom I don't have to think too deeply as that would take time.

The GM is also narrating in a kind of comical way, so that helps.

The one thing I'm seeing as a little issue is that there's someone whom I expected to make a more down-to-earth character also made a pretty oddball one. Since with two of three players messing around will slow down too much, I'll try harder to maintain her personality but also let the story happen.

I mean, in the last session, when one of us got handled a bottle of something unknown, my character sort of went "Do you want to drink? No? I'll drink it then."

After rolling a 2 minus one [due to low CON], the all-important story talk got stopped as my character sort of convulsed in the ground. So I'm reflecting on that. It was in-character though.
