Monday Morning Offerings #168: "That's sexual harassment, you know? ^^"

    The ranch once again
    https://twitter.com/Strangestone/status/993272000603766785

Later, the squeeze was put on, but good.
Due to the ambiguity of the original line, it could mean, "He was severely scolded afterward," "She went to do the milking event later," or "Afterwards, she was firmly milked." (Credit to the Japanese posters who highlighted this.)

A follow-up tweet from Himura-sensei says the following:

    あとでこってりしぼられる

My best translation of that line is literally "[He] had been reprimanded strongly [by Ai-chan] afterwards". Every other possibility just didn't make sense.

Assuming it follows the typical "They had lots of ____ afterwards", you could phrase it as "There was lots of reprimanding afterwards".

It's a pun using the verb shiboru, which can mean "to reprimand", but also "to wring/squeeze" or "to milk". To preserve the wordplay...maybe "She later put the squeeze on him."

You know, I have to wonder... Does it really count as sexual harrassment if you're already in a healthy sexual relationship with the girl you're saying such a line to?

There are limits in both directions, but the obvious answer is "it's tricky".

They are also dating, not married, so he is automatically on thin ice. Even if they are intimate, or living together, if she broke it off right there the guy could get in trouble fast without any legal say to protect him.

If they were married, it could get pushed to domestic violence, especially if kids are involved, and the victim would have grounds to draw a favorable deal in a divorce in addition to any punishments hefted on the perpetrator. Marriage might provide a little defense against a full harassment charge, but those walls can be thin too, and I doubt it would stop the charge from being carried out at least to some degree.

You'd probably need to talk to a lawyer for more information. I don't know how it is for Japan. My general input is: just because you might have had sex once is no reason to creep over your gf.

It is counts, but depends on her attitude towards that sort of snarks.
For example, I have a female friend for a long time that I constanlty sexually harassing for the hell of it via snarks, mocks, naughty jokes and sometimes even bold groping but by no means in sexual relationship. Except for last, most of the time I'm being scolded that my "harassment methods" are "still fun but getting old and stale".

Well, you obviously don't want to compliment her ass in the middle of a crowded Starbucks. That might be humiliating.

Put simply, if your girlfriend says it isn't cool, it isn't cool.

Behavior that you woulnd't do to a stranger, but would do with friends or a significant other are just jokes for exactly as long as that person takes it as a joke.

Commentary on the followup tweet by Japanese posters points out that this is a triple meaning - Ai went to actually do the milking, Onii-san was 'strictly reprimanded' by Ai, or Ai was 'firmly squeezed' by Onii-san.

Thanks to the complete lack of subject or object in the original tweet, all we can say is that someone is getting something'd.

... Really?! Makes you wonder whether the "false smile" was really that, or just Ai-chan deciding to fake a negative reaction. Perhaps she wanted to conceal her embarrassment/excitement at Onii-san's suggestion/joke?

Tried for something equally ambiguous in translation, then.

Poor guy; maybe he genuinely just wanted to milk a cow.

Say, do we have a tag or pool for such ambiguity? Especially if it's fairly obvious that the multiple possible meanings is actually intentional?

... You know, I can actually believe that he simply pointed at the sign and said "Let's do that!", only for Ai-chan to misinterpret it as a dirty joke (or possibly pretend to be thinking that it's so) rather than take what he said at face value.

Have a personal milking experience. The word here, "chichi" can mean milk, but is also a term for breasts, themselves, so it can basically read "Have a personal breast-squeezing experience".
