    Hang in There, Kogasa-san 2777

My sense of direction just won't work in Taiwan, for some reason. (^^;) It felt like I was always heading in the opposite direction and wandering around. It also felt like my GPS location info wouldn't update if I didn't run around for several minutes, so I was ready to cry.

The weird bouncing around parts on the map are noise.

Busy day today, as I'm prepping for a trip, thus my running a bit late. I'll be away from tomorrow through next Monday, so fair warning, I guess.

The only reader-added tag now is "Yuyuko: 'Why don't you just eat to make up for that extra?♥'"

Edit: Before I forget to mention, I again invite those with actual knowledge of Chinese to fill in the location names and such. (I can tell the sign in panel 2 is for a Buddhist temple, but I'm not sure if the additional text affects that.)

Is the map from the fourth panel clipping into the third one?

You know, I believe it is. Oops. Wonder if there'll be a correction later.

    Yamame was here in spirit.

Jokes aside, I wonder if there's something in how Taiwan has its buildings that fucks over a sense of direction or not.

Yes, it's called 'no proper city planning'.

I don't know how each city manages its construction projects, but in Taiwan it appears that the only rule recognized there is that there are no rules. It's common to see buildings that are ridiculous out of place in style, design and architecture in almost every turn, in a cityscape with near zero consistency, that it just totally destroys a person's sense of direction.

I was in Taipei twice (in the same area and district to boot) for a business trip and in both instances I got hopelessly lost.

For comparison's sake, I never got that lost in Shanghai on my first visit.

This reminds me of a set of recent Reddit posts about the distributions of road orientations in different cities around the world (shown in radial histograms; here is the link to the original post that the people at Reddit were discussing: http://geoffboeing.com/2018/07/city-street-orientations-world/ , though there are other posts out there for various other locations/countries).

I don't know if there are any for cities in Taiwan, but someone made a rough attempt at an interactive plot ( https://mourner.github.io/road-orientation-map/ ). Just note that the radial histogram it shows is sensitive to both zoom level (w.r.t. both how many roads are out-of-bounds and how many roads are deemed too small to be included when zoomed out far enough) and screen center, so any change in how you are viewing the map will change what roads are, or are not, included.
