And I don't believe they can talk about their ship age when it comes to human system of counting age.

If we're going by how long she's been afloat, Akatsuki's age will correspond with a young preteen girl. (About 9 years old, counting from launch date to sunk date.)

Hibiki, on the other hand, is legally old enough to buy vodka at the convenient store.

They actually do, though- since development completely halts according to this series, once a shipgirl is, well, a shipgirl age based restrictions on driving, drinking etc no longer apply to them- look at what Maru-Yu's been able to drive. That being said, the restriction on drinking and driving almost certainly still applies- I look forward to the inevitable day when Hibiki drags Akatsuki along purely to act as a designated driver and hilarity ensures.

Except that they've got driver's licenses already, IIRC. Even if they're base issued.

In this series a ship spirit possesses a human body offered to it during a ritual. The human possessed stops aging once this happens. Akatsuki could very well be over 50 but stopped aging when possessed by a destroyer. post #2075989
