To paraphrase the Matrix, "she moves like them!"

That youkai hunter training is showing.

So aside from using INT as a dump stat, she min-maxed her DEX and solves all her problems with violence. She's sounding more and more like a RPG character by the moment.

Also, Jarlath, you should be more careful when letting autocomplete pick the pool... (You put it in "Touhou - Touhou Reigashuu ~Urban Knight's Anthology Illustration Doujin Series~")

I have to wonder why Shiki's taking a picture of Reiga hiding the body in panel one, outside of the narrative need for her to notice the kamaitachi in the shot.

Incidentally, one of the Japanese commentators asked if Reiga was going to put the "Exterminator" in a bathtub with sulfuric acid next, to which another commentator replied that sulfuric acid would leave behind bones, so she should use hydrofluoric acid, instead.

Yuurei responded that such a thing was scary, but then responded to comments about her being a "flying panties youkai" by saying that was a great idea.

Of course the, murder mystery Otaku would know how to dispose of corpses properly.... unless that's their night job.

And I'm more focused on the claw than the panties.

Ironically, HF is pretty bad at dissolving flesh and bone. H2SO4 does a better job (need to be added to water though, since you need water to hydrolyze proteins, so 'pure' concentrated H2SO4 doesn't nearly work as well. 'Pure' acids are also generally less corrosive than 'slightly' aqueous ones, even on minerals and metals). Sodium hydroxide does an even better job, since it can saponify fats. It also breaks down proteins faster. Works slower on bones though, but it still leaves them brittle enough to be crushed by a finger.

Lime pits (calcium hydroxide or calcium oxide) is the budget solution.
(Edit: This will backfire in areas without lots of rain, since CaO/Ca(OH)2 will desiccate the corpse instead and slow down putrefaction. It does eliminate odor though, which is why lime was often used in mass burial pits.)

HF is 'corrosive' in the sense that it corrodes most substances that are normally considered 'impervious' to acids (like glass) because of how electronegative F is, letting it attack oxides and silicates in minerals to form water-soluble or gaseous fluorides (that's how dilute HF attacks glass; it reacts with insoluble silicon dioxide in glass to form aqueous hexafluorosilicic acid). Ironically, for the same reason, it is not as corrosive to metals (compared to HCl, H2SO4, other mineral acids etc.) because F is a stingy bastard and doesn't like to let go of its H in water (and even when it does, it tends to form ion-molecule clusters), so it's technically a weak acid.

HF is dangerously poisonous against living things though. Since it is a weak acid (ironically), it doesn't ionize readily, so the small molecules (or tightly-bound ion-molecule clusters) can easily pass through skin (and most gloves), allowing it to penetrate deeply into tissue, causing extensive, penetrating acid 'burns' even with tiny amounts of HF. Even more insidiously, HF also acts as a local painkiller, so you won't even feel the 'burns' until it's too late.

(Strong acids are nearly completely ionized, so they're repelled by the skin and cell membranes. Damage starts from the skin surface and most people will instinctively wash them off if they get on the skin. Other weak 'molecular' acids are not as small as HF, and they usually don't 'rob' important ions or catalyze all sorts of nasty reactions that lead to cell death and tissue 'burns' even if they penetrate your skin).

Should HF get into your blood stream, it will start capturing calcium and magnesium ions, messing up your blood biochemistry and causing BAD THINGS like seizures, spasms, and cardiac arrest (HF has high affinity for Ca2+ and Mg2+, this is also how it interferes with pain receptors mentioned earlier since they also need those ions). Painful way to die. Or survive, if you're (un)lucky.

While HF is very effective at killing living things (by getting all over the place and disrupting body biochemistry), it is not that effective at, well, actually disintegrating their bodies. Against 'organics', HF usually just attacks alkenes (inserting itself into C=C double bonds) and doesn't normally do jack against 'structural linkage bonds' like C-O-C, C-N-C and the occasional C-S-S-C that hold proteins/polysaccharides/lipids together and give structure to tissue. You need strong acids or bases (high or low pH) to break those (and water, which is why the reaction is called 'hydrolysis'), and HF isn't one. So, if you soak a carcass in HF, it'll probably be rapidly 'cooked' inside out and be tenderized a bit (and give off all sorts of nasty corrosive poisonous fumes in the process), but it won't dissolve into sludge even after days.

(Organofluorine chemistry is a rich subject, but most of interesting reactions that don't involve alkenes require exotic reagents or conditions [like being hooked up to a battery], and not just plain HF.)

Mythbusters did a special on this at my alma mater. HF was rather insipid really, but it did attack ceramic (still slow, but relatively much faster than most acids that only have noticeable effect on geological timescales). They later on used another acid mixture (likely piranha solution) to actually turn meat into slush.

Disclaimer: I have zero experience with dissolving corpses, but I do have extensive experience with using various acids and bases as reagents, to dissolve and digest samples, and to clean glassware. I haven't used HF before though (PI wanted to, once, but since it wasn't feasible to implement the necessary safety protocols we just used aqua regia instead).

The comment sections is an adventure in itself, it's really interesting and you'll learn a thing or two in the process just like a children's TV show.

Still, one of the easiest ways for a layman to dispose of a body (for whatever reason) is the old burn-in-a-barrel and pulverise. There's an issue is controlling the smoke and smell, but you can pretty effectively remove all distinguishing characteristics - as long as you take special care to smash the teeth up properly, anyway.

Procurement of the supplies and disposal of the ash is left as an exercise to the reader. It's certainly a lot easier to get the materials needed without suspicion, unlike highly caustic chemicals in great amounts.

Remember! You don't have to completely make a body disappear, you only have to make it so it can never be linked to you!

(The gold standard in easy body disposal is the pig farm, but that's somewhat harder to utilise without the needed connections.)

To be honest, NaOH is easy to procure in large quantities if you really need to use it...

P.S., I use it all the time for recycling old plastic miniatures. I'm a wargamer, not a warmonger!

Getting, and getting without leaving any evidence that you did so at any time close to when a person mysteriously disappeared are two different things though.

So what you're saying is that I should stockpile lots of lye so that I have some ready on hand to dispose of bodies as the need arises without raising suspicion, and that I should make some home-made soap as a hobby to have an alibi in case anyone asks why I'm stockpiling lye, just like Fight Club?
