Right, gotta ask. Where does this tradition of naval curry come from?

Something about having curry specifically on Fridays so that the sailors can keep their sense of time while out at sea. Considering that the Japanese got their curry addiction from the British Navy back when they were best pals in the Meiji Era, I'd say it was around late 19th century up until the turn of the 20th century, right before the World Wars.
