It's never been shown, but I presume it's something where they never really died. (Like, they were holding onto repair goddesses or something.) Without the full doujin, all you can see is everyone mourning the death of Hiei and Jun'you, then they're suddenly back a few pages later.

We really need that one missing doujin. Hiei and Jun'you return, Southern Ocean War Oni becomes a member of the exiles, and Abyssal Fubuki shows up. There has to be one hell of a story behind all that. It drives me mad, mad I tell you!
