Naah, she suddenly remembered stories about Krampus/Black Peter ("Black Santa") kidnapping bad children, mentioned in post #3357550. And apparently 'Yotsuba isn't confident that she's a good girl (probably played too many tricks as a tanuki).

I was wondering how you'd handle the slangy versions of yabai. "What the hizzy" is delightful, but what use of "suss" is this in the title? The only usage of the word I'm familiar with is "realize/figure out", as in, "Hey, I've sussed it! This must be Milliway's!" (My first encounter with the term.) Has it somehow become equivalent with "sucky" as well?

It's also Antipodean (Aus/NZ) slang for 'suspicious'. Not in most parts of the Commonwealth though, IIRC (where it means "to realize/figure out", as you noted).

Edit: Oh wait, suss can also used as shorthand for "suspicious" in Britain, according to more modern sources (social media and recent news articles), putting it in line with Aus/NZ use.

Provincialism, ho! It's also 'to figure out' (I've got it sussed), but thats contextual, and almost always in the past tense. When just 'Suss' (sometimes just sus) it's 'suspicious'. It's normally just spoken language, not written.

Changed it out for 'Sketchy' instead. This is what I get for late-night marathoning some translation...

Appreciate the jointly provided info. I could swear I've heard or read of "suss" the verb being used in the present tense, but it's possible I just imagined it.
