    Hang in There, Kogasa-san 2949

There's even stuff like kits for cultivating shiitake in the bathroom! :-)

JESUS FUCKING CHRIST, Kogasa! There's a limit to how much of a slob one can be before being a worthless bag of filth in a vaguely human shape. And you went so far past it that Sanae needs to exterminate you on the spot.

Reader-added comments include "Now bathing", "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wine Cap" (originally inserting one kanji to turn "wind" into "bath"), and "Fruit of the MushLooms". ("Sarumatake", a made-up name for mushrooms that grow from a pile of unwashed boxers (sarumata) in the apartment of the protagonist in Leiji Matsumoto's Otoko Oidon (I'm a Man.)

    That is...interesting.

I don't go out of my way to clean my toilet, but it never caused mushrooms to grow even at its dirtiest.

He's making excuses for his laziness. I've lived in apartments built in the 1940s and taken steaming hot showers (as I suspect many before me did) and never saw mushrooms.

It's not the building, but it's his filth youkai's laziness at fault.

You asked for a story, Sanae. It's your own fault you know this now.

I'm part of a forum for identifying fungi of all kinds and believe it or not this does happen from time to time. Either water has leaked from the roof or a pipe into the area within the wall or it's just constantly damp with no ventilation.

Have you ever gone to the Santa Cruz, CA Fungus Fair? That sounds like something that would interest you if you live in the area. The one for this year just ended but you can probably catch next year.

There should be more visible damage if it's water damage (softened wall with some discoloration) and there a window right beside the tub. And I don't think a 40 year old building would be completely sealed off.
