... This is worse, it's likely a reference to the White Hare of Inaba. After the feat shown at the top, where the white hare crossed an ocean channel by tricking a group of sharks into letting it hop across their backs, it made the mistake of taunting the last shark before reaching dry land. The last shark took the White Hare's skin as punishment for tricking them. Been a long time since I heard the story, but that's about the gist of it. This is less Ooi and more that creepy guy from "The Silence of the Lambs"...

Note: no-one seems quite sure what the wani the Hare of Inaba crossed over were; wani means "crocodile" in modern Japanese, but there probably weren't crocodiles in the seas around prehistoric Japan, and wani is apparently also a dialectal word for "shark" (and more generally forms part of the name of various sharks) so it gets translated as "shark" as well as "crocodile". Heldt's recent translation of the Kojiki just calls them "sea beasts". I mention all this in case anyone wonders why Garrus mentions sharks when the comic shows crocodiles. (Most of the other images tagged hare_of_inaba show sharks, for what it's worth.)
