It's a common sign of irritation or frustration in comics.

The artifacts are hard to see if you are not zoomed in. Found them when I was adding what Darj was missing.

The majority of squiggles I see are like a small ball or wad of string. The ones that have more of an axial shape are usually just one stretched spiral; this one is like a full blown twister! :-D I wonder if the shapes somehow denote the level of frustration.

No. It's just different ways of drawing the same thing. It's down to artist preference.
