Sometimes I'm guilty of this kind of thing too, since I expect convenience stores' register to be able to handle it, especially when the ATMs around only provide the largest bill available just to fuck with me.

As an owner of a shop myself, i related this... everyday. Specially all those mothers and old women who intentionally brought their big money bill just to get the smaller one... by buying VERY few or even just one cheap priced item.
