its actually 501 and a spell circle, you know for the Joint Fighter Unit. i think the artist just did that for it too look a little more bad ass?...i dunno.

Of course, you can also get more imaginative. Like, who knows? Maybe the 'Warlock' experiment went a bit more horribly wrong in this continuity than the original one, and thus now most of Earth is Neuroi controlled and with a thirst for witch blood.
Then, when the witches are inevitably labeled as traitors, decide to rub the crests on their Striker Units and replace them with spray paint, to show that they will fight together, till the last consequences...
