    You'd have to time it correctly though. Go too far out and humanity might have already developed the ability to efficiently mine asteroids, essentially rendering all gold and other rare metals on earth worthless.

    Unless traditional gold jewelry of the ancient times somehow remains popular in the far future.
    And it probably will, given humans have always had an unhealthy obsession with this soft yellow metal.

    We're *this* close to using particle accelerators to manufacture gold practical. We can make synthetic gold, but it costs too much energy and infrastructure.
