You seem to be unfamiliar with Eastern belief of youkai/yaoguai eating/killing more humans to become human....
Might be your take, but that doesn't seem like something would make people to question what she was told, right?

I knew I was missing something.

But by that logic, wouldn't she just become an Abyssal quickly for killing so many Abyssals?

Thing is, youkai and yaoguai also kill other deities or beast to eat and gain more vitality to become human, and since their starting lines would often be from beast or small deities, becoming humans is the only way. And humans are just filled with human vitality so it's faster to just eat humans.

So, going by that logic, killing Abyssals to become humans isn't that off from the same logic.
However, as there's no way to actually confirm which way the logic is going, seems we can't rule out the chance she's going to become an Abyssal, like how magical girls become witches in Madoka.
