She didn't earn the nickname "Machine Gun Cruiser" for no reason. The combination of fast-firing 6-inch guns (ten rounds a minute) and a modern (for the time) radar set made her incredibly effective in night battles. She did great work at the Battle of Cape Esperance and the First Naval Battle of Guadalcanal.
In short, Helena's a small ship that could pack a big punch.
Helena was involved in most of the naval battles of the Guadalcanal campaign and sank, contributed to sinking, or heavily damaged a number of japanese warships.
Took me forever to realize that this was reference to Helena's hourly lines (1-3AM). It's sorta what-if situation where she had grown tired of them for still not getting their shit together.
Note: Helena reluctantly turns a blind eye to Fletcher's written report, so she may have been just as sloppy as the other two.
