    Hang in There, Kogasa-san 3671

This is also a story of how I finally bought this and so was motivated to clean the keyboard. The principal it operates on, apparently, is that when the ultrasonic waves strike an object, they generate extremely small bubbles, and the dirt gets floated off when these instantly burst!

And so, today will be my final upload of the year.

Nearly all of this year's conventions were either canceled or postponed by a certain infectious disease, but I'm hoping they'll come back next year...

    Happy New Year, everyone!

    Oh, an ultrasonic cleaner.

Lots of these at very low prices in China. Am considering importing one to use on my dirty-as-sin spectacles.

Reader-added tags for now consist of "Acquisition of new technology" and "It can theoretically kill a person, by the way".

    Ultrasonic cleaners, huh.
However many time had we tried them in 2000's, it seems they all turned out to be a scam.
Although they weren't box-like like one here in panel 1, but plug on one end of a 1-1.5m cord and a rectangular, spherical or pear-shaped object on another.
They were marketed to be portable laundry machines, but they did jackshit, even if it was only one handkerchief in the tub beside this device.

Because they were never designed to clean fabrics.

These are meant to dislodge dirt and grime from hard-to-reach places in small objects such as those tiny holes in metal watch bracelets, jewellery, gear teeth etc.

They're basically designed to "upgrade" a solvent; they help it penetrate deeper into stuck-on junk faster. I don't think they work very well with soaps in cases where you're cleaning something that isn't a hard smooth piece like a keycap, which require more of a brushing or rubbing action to clear detritus. I'm no sciencematician, though.

Mildly surprised nobody mentioned the Final Fantasy victory fanfare.

    Thirty minutes later...
    Wanted It for a While
Here's where I bring out this machine!
    Whoa...sparkling clean!
    An ultrasonic cleanerrr!
    Dun da-da-da dunn-da dat-da daaa!
    Buying stuff like that again...
Cleaning the keycaps would be a royal pain without using this...
    There's over 100 of them...
It does something or other with the power of ultrasonic waves and the dirt apparently just falls right off.
    Squrk
It seems it's better to add a few drops of detergent.
