What is the reference here? I reread the entire series and I don't really get it beside several instances of anomalies that suck people into another world.

Seems like the shadow is actually like a type of mirror (see it mimicking the pose of the person speaking to it in each panel), so I guess messing with it is actually messing with yourself

Did both versions ended pulling each other into the void?

Probably not 'the void'. If you look at the final panel in the distance there's a sheet with 2 shadows on it which seems to be the long haired friend and the shadow otter. Looks like the 'unlucky' friend did just end up paying a visit to the shadow otter's room but now she's stuck wherever it is.

You can see the shadow already on the back sheet in the second-to-last panel, and a slight sliver of it in all previous panels. Plus both shadows seem to have short hair so that's probably not them.

On that note, main shadow doesn't seem to be an otter. Ears are too large and close together and tail is too thick. (Shadow on the right matches though) At first I assumed it mimics whoever is there but it doesn't seem to have long hair with the long haired Friend either so it's probably a generic Friend shadow.

It definitely mimics them to some extent, compare the first panel to the second panel. The shadow inexplicably gains a stick and pack, and its tail slims down. Its body shape seems to match the otters' clothes, as well.

Then look at the 3rd panel and on, it seems to be wearing a miniskirt like the unnamed friend. And of course it's copying the pose of whoever it's speaking to in every panel. It's not a perfect reflection, but it definitely mimics a general idea of the potential victim, agreeing with whatever they say, too.

Is Abubu possibly making a point about the waifu/riajuu phenomenon? The "Extremely Flat Friend" remark seems rather on-the-nose.

That makes it sound like a damage mirror effect: if someone tried to cut it they would get cut, if someone tried to burn it they would get burnt, etc. This explains the "DON'T ATTACK" graffiti.
